I just received an e-mail from Kemba Cofield, who is up in New York for a slew of gigs and a recording session in Garden City, N.J. She's working on a full-length release full of original tunes (and one standard, Duke Ellington's "Caravan") for Bluesback Records. Here's what she says about her material: "My original pieces are encouraging songs. I actually wrote most of them out of some madness in my life these last few weeks. I was so frustrated and angry at how things in my life were going. I had to encourage myself, and it came out into songs."
Cofield's first studio record, Shades of Kemba, was released in 2005. Look for her new CD in late spring/early summer.
